VIETNAMESE FOOD

I am a Vietnamese girl, so it is obvious that I love Vietnamese food. If you are a foreigner and you are about to go to Vietnam or even if you’re a Vietnamese but you have never tried these, then you must try it.

I will write this in Vietnamese so that it can be more accurate when you search for it.

THE NORTHERN

Phở

This is the most popular food in Vietnam. It’s noodles and you can eat it with beef or chicken.

Chả cá Lã Vọng

This is made from noodle and fish. To make this dish, people will grill the fish first, then they put it in a pan (full of oil) and and the herbs.

It is made from immature rice kernels roasted over very low heat then pounded until flattened.

Bánh cuốn Thanh Trì

It is made from a thin, wide sheet of steamed fermented rice batter filled with a mixture of cooked seasoned ground pork, minced mushroom and minced shallots.

THE CENTRAL

Bánh bèo

It is white in color and typically features a dimple in the center, which is filled with savory ingredients including chopped dried shrimp, scallions, mung bean paste, crispy fried shallots, fish sauce, rice vinegar, and oil.

Bánh xèo

It is named for the loud sizzling sound it makes when the rice batter is poured into the hot skillet. It is a savory fried pancake made of rice flour, water, powder, stuffed with slivers of fatty pork, shrimp, diced green onion, and bean sprouts.

THE SOUTHERN

It is a noodle soup consisting of rice noodles with pork stock and toppings.

Bánh canh

It is a kind of noodle that is thick and can be made from tapioca flour or a mixture of rice and tapioca flour.

It is a popular Vietnamese cold rice vermicelli noodle dish topped with grilled pork, fresh herbs like basil and mint, fresh salad and bean sprouts, and chả giò (spring rolls).
